Individuals from our Developmental Disabilities programs and staff from across Rockland County, Goshen, and the Bronx recently enjoyed an exciting BBQ Field Day. With an estimated 150-200 people in attendance, the event offered a chance to step outside their typical routines, get active, and connect with others.
The goal of this event was to bring individuals from different programs and locations together. A variety of activities, including T-ball, cornhole, relay races, kickball, and a dual basketball arcade, were available to accommodate a range of abilities and allow everyone to participate in a way that was right for them.
Photo stands, carnival-like food carts, and lively music added to the excitement of the day, while a BBQ themed menu catered by Bailey’s Smokehouse was enjoyed by all.
Saint Dominic's Residential Activities Coordinator, Chivon Dean, shared, “My goal and mission inside and outside of the agency is to provide awesome experiences for this population.” She emphasized that creating those experiences is a collective effort, extending her thanks to Ann Marie, Chief Executive Officer, and Carol St. John, Chief Program Officer of Residential Programs, for their support throughout the entire planning process, as well as to all the staff volunteers who contributed their time, energy, and enthusiasm.
Carol St. John recognized Chivon’s dedication to bringing the Field Day to life as well, sharing, “Chivon was outstanding in planning and organizing the Field Day! She worked closely with the Maintenance Department and outside vendors to create a fun, active, and memorable experience for the individuals we support and our staff.”
For the individuals we support, the day was all about having fun and spending time together. Shenita Dorsey, who lives in one of our residences and attends Rockland Day Habilitation Program, shared, “I had fun at the Field Day; my favorite thing was the food and being with my friends.”
At the heart of the event was the opportunity to celebrate the individuals we support. The laughter, dancing, and shared moments throughout the day captured the strong sense of community that makes Saint Dominic’s Family Services so special.
