Serving Rockland, Westchester and Orange Counties and New York City
Saint Dominic’s School provides a structured, therapeutic educational environment that emphasizes safety, individualized support, and high expectations to help students reach their full academic, social, and emotional potential. We serve students in grades PreK–12 with a range of special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disability, Learning Disability and Speech or Language Impairment. We offer a low student-to-staff ratio (8:1:1/2) and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each learner’s strengths and needs in partnership with families. We provide a full range of related services to support each student’s individualized needs, including counseling, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily, ensuring students are nourished and ready to learn. Transportation is arranged through the student’s home school district. Enrichment opportunities include instruction in Art, Music, and Physical Education, supporting the development of the whole child.
Early Childhood Education Program (Opened, July 2025)
This new therapeutic preschool will serve children aged 2.7 –5 years old with special needs, providing a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment that supports emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth. We blend early childhood education with therapeutic support to meet the needs of young children requiring emotional or behavioral guidance, using an approach grounded in attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and developmental best practices. Classrooms will have an 8:1:2 ratio and integrates early childhood education with therapeutic supports such as speech, occupational, and physical therapy.
Elementary and Middle School (Grades K–8)
Students benefit from a small, structured learning environment focused on intensive academic instruction and social-emotional development. Our approach emphasizes positive behavioral supports and proactive strategies to promote student growth. Students in grades 3-8 participate in either standard New York State Standard Assessments or Alternate Assessment as set forth by their IEP.
High School (Grades 9–12)
Our students engage in a curriculum that balances academic instruction with real-world vocational experiences. The Community-Based Vocational Work Program helps prepare students for the transition from school to adulthood. All high school students participate in New York State Alternate Assessment and exit the program at age 21 with a Skills and Achievement Credential.
Summer School
All programs offer Extended School Year (ESY): A six-week summer program supports students with continued instruction and services as outlined in their IEPs to maintain progress and consistency.
Referral Process
Students are referred to St. Dominic’s by their local school districts’ Committees on Special Education (CSE) or Committee on Preschool Education. Information typically sent by a school district will include educational and psychological evaluations, related services evaluations, psychiatric and neurological assessments, social history update and a medical history.
St. Dominic’s will review the referral packet to determine if we can meet the student’s needs and if we have an appropriate class placement. An on-campus interview and tour will be offered to students and their families who the admissions team feels could be a good fit for our programs. The prospective student and their family will be able to tour the school, meet staff and see learning in action!
The admissions team tries to have a determination of appropriateness to the student, family and CSE/CPSE within one week of the interview. The student’s day of admission is determined with the school district, following a meeting to finalize the specifics of the student’s program at St. Dominic’s School or St. Dominic’s Early Childhood Program.
